Roots and Meaning

Shazen is our trademark name for all programs offered at Tao Institute Inc. Historically Shamanism and Zen theory are some of our oldest medical philosophies. I chose the term because of how the study of natural patterns and rhythms of harmony and distress, compliment the study of disease and wellness. I have a passion for nature and a passion for observation. I like the idea that in early medicine a drummer looked to the sky for a vision. Shazen reminds me of the tradition of honoring ancestors and elders, of walking lightly on the earth, and about living in relation to all things. I've held the trademark for fifteen years. All our booklets and training programs fall under its jurisdiction.
